“Absolutely the best in Sedona”

We don’t get away often, so I spent hours and hours pouring over the lodging options in Sedona. Honestly, even the basic hotel chains look lovely in Sedona, and you couldn’t get a bad view scenery-wise if you tried, so we had alot of choices. Ultimately, I chose El Portal because of the incredible care and detail that went into building the place – no photo online can do El Portal justice – it’s authentic, beautiful, and the owners Connie and Steve are the ultimate hosts. Our two-night reservation, which we made as a ‘jumping off’ point to tour the region ended up with us staying at El Portal the entire week! We loved it THAT much. Use El Portal as your base to enjoy all that Northern Arizona has to offer – Connie and Steve will leave the light on for ya! Oh – and regarding the pet-friendly policy. I love animals, but we weren’t travelling with any. I enjoyed getting to meet some of our neighbors’ doggies, but honestly, you would never ever know that this was a pet-friendly hotel. There’s no evidence ‘left behind’ :-)

The purpose of our trip was for our two senior labs to experience travel. They were treated like royalty! We were given extra thick blankets for them to lie on as well as treats, clean up bags, etc. Our room (called The Flat Rock Hickory) had a patio with fenced garden which gave the dogs freedom to roam. Our room was beautiful and spotless..and I mean spotless! The king size bed was so comfortable but the jacuzzi bathtub was the best of all for me, right down to the high quality toiletries and view of the garden. The food was excellent (large portions) and the dogs were welcome to join us in the dining room. The room was very spacious and we felt secure on the property to sleep with the patio door wide open. This was an excellent experience not only for us but for our dogs as well. (ArizonaDi, AZ)

This hotel is a MUST to experience. I don’t know where to start my accolades. First of all, this is an extraordinary building with consummate attention to detail in each of the carefully crafted and decorated rooms. The grounds are beautifully landscaped. The personalized service by the staff and the owner, Steve is exceptional. The atmosphere is of an intimate B&B. We will definitely be back.
